Concept Note:
The location of the Beer Tales- A microbrewery is unique – situated amidst the spine of the city- The Rajpur road in Dehradun, it was critical to create a welcoming, inclusive, and energetic gathering place, allowing locals to enjoy an experience that they haven’t had before, it being the first microbrewery of Uttarakhand. Beer Tales Brewery was created to surprise and indulge patrons with a unique craft beer tasting experience. The concept delivers the expertise gained from working with traditional craft beer fermentation techniques to a contemporary and cozy
gathering place. The existing conditions and relating structure of the current building had to be carefully investigated and incorporated into the architectural design. The large site meant that zoning had to be exceptionally considered to ensure sections felt intimate but also retain the open-plan beer hall experience. Minimal finishes create a contemporary industrial feel whilst the found items take inspiration from the original factory. A mesmerising central Beer Bar Counter structure is the main architectural feature, it was designed to be modular and exposed, visually linking all around spaces. Internally it serves a practical purpose, carrying, and services such as lighting, AV, and brewery mechanical equipment. Every light fitting across the project has its own story. The
lighting concept was designed to replicate the idea of a sunset beer session. All light fittings were tailored to have layers of optimised filters that replicate the natural colours of a sunset. In a commitment to sustainability and integration, the architects took the extraordinary step of designing a number of the light fixtures themselves. In addition, pairing brick walls, concrete ceilings, and rustic floors with wood furniture completes the selection of
materials and gives a strong character to the bar. The wooden elements are applied in the sitting areas, tables, chairs, and bar counter, providing the design with a touch of domestic and welcoming feeling that anybody would desire for a long afternoon with friends sharing craft beer.
